WHAT IS PANSEXUALITY?!?
People who identify as pansexuals find potential attraction in people of any gender identification and biological sex.
DO PANSEXUALS LIKE OBJECTS AS WELL? SINCE THEY DON’T CARE ABOUT ~BODIES~?
Ha… No. That is called objectosexuality and is separate from pansexuality.
BUT AREN’T YOU JUST BISEXUAL IF YOU LIKE GIRLS AND GUYS?
You obviously misread the definition of pansexuality. Indeed, bisexuality is the attraction towards two types of gender identities or biological sexes, commonly towards cismen and ciswomen. But pansexuality finds attraction in multiple body types, such as: trans*, genderqueer, agender, cisgenders, bigender, etc.
ISN’T THAT GETTING A BIT NIT-PICKY? / WHY DON’T YOU JUST SAY YOU’RE BISEXUAL?
By being “nit-picky”, one is allowing themselves to search and discover the truth about how they feel. Also, by having the definition of pansexual, a new avenue is opened up.
Just imagine if people were not aware of a certain career. While I am sure that an imaginative person may be able to invent the idea of being an astronaut, the typical person may have never realized that such a career existed or could exist. This was the case with my aunt as she grew up. She never realized until she was late in her twenties that there were different types of doctors, scientists, behind-the-scenes people, etc. No one told her that a psychiatrist was a profession, therefore she thought it didn’t exist.
Point is this: pansexuality allows people like myself to realize that a sexual attraction to someone who is not gender-binary or not part of the bisexual framework is indeed its own sexuality. Especially since these types of attractions do not cleanly fit into the heterosexuality, homosexuality, and bisexuality.
SO IF I’M BISEXUAL/HOMOSEXUAL/HETEROSEXUAL, DOES THAT MAKE ME A HORRIBLE PERSON BECAUSE I DON’T FEEL ATTRACTED TO ____?!
Not at all! That just means you’re not attracted to that type of person sexually and/or romantically. Just like people who are gay and lesbian cannot help but be attracted to people of the same biological sex, people who are bisexual cannot help but be attracted to only two biological sexes.
As long as you don’t declare that YOUR type of attraction is the only RIGHT way of attraction, you are free to feel sexually attracted to whomever you are sexually attracted to!
WELL, WHAT IF I THOUGHT I WAS ____ BUT NOW I THINK I’M PANSEXUAL? OR I THOUGHT I WAS PANSEXUAL, BUT NOW I THINK I’M ____?
Sexuality is fluid. I know a woman who was heterosexual in middle school, bisexual in high school, and now is a lesbian in college. Does that mean she wasn’t heterosexual back in middle school? Nope! She certainly was. Was she in denial when she was bisexual in high school? Nope! She certainly had an attraction to both sexes. But she changed as she grew up, and with her life changes, her sexuality also changed.
I myself thought I was straight until I developed a crush on a cute boy I met online. After a year of talking to him, I slowly found out that “he” had full breasts, a vagina, and lacked a penis. Yet this didn’t matter to me—I still had romantic, sexual feelings towards him. A couple years later, I finally realized that I liked many types of bodies and sexes, and was indifferent to the gender label someone identified with. And so, I now identify my sexuality as pansexual.
